As many of you know, if you have read previous posts of mine, I love coffee.  Every morning, I look forward to the sound of the coffee machine beeping telling me that it is ready for me to pour a hot mug of, with cream of course.  Well,  Mr. T and I both really love Dunkin Donuts coffee. We buy it by the pound and will make the trip all the way out to our city’s only DD to score some. Yes, you can buy it in the grocery stores now, however you pay the same exact price but get less in the bag. Instead of 16 ounces you only get 12 oz so it is worth the trip to stock up.

We have been trying to cut back on our spending, as everyone has, and really start paying attention to the cost of things.  I have been using coupons like crazy, shopping at the huge discount grocery store (which I loathe, by the way) and watching our spending on pizza out and the like.

Mr. T, God love him, decides that one of the ways we can cut back is to stop buying the liquid gold that is Dunkin’ Donuts coffee.  It is pricey, after all.  So, last night we go to the grocery story together and hit the coffee aisle.  We look around and cost compare and read labels.  We both have pretty much the same taste when it comes to the java, so we agreed on one and headed to the checkout.

I could smell it brewing this morning and it did not smell like my DD java. Not even close.  But I was going to keep an open mind and give it a shot.  I poured a mug, added my cream and took a sip.  My eyes watered.  It was horrible!  I tried to give it a fair shot. Tried to drink at least one cup. Could not do it.  It is like being served filet mignon every day and then suddenly someone tricking you and passing off a chopped sirloin patty on your plate.  I was not happy.  Actually, I was really grouchy about it.  I promptly called Mr. T at school and got his voice mail.  This is what he heard once he got back into his office:

“I will cut coupons until my scissors dull, I will vow to not visit Starbucks for 6 months, I will serve grilled cheese and tomato soup for dinner and I will promise to wear my jeans more than once before I throw them in the laundry.  I will turn off all lights when not in use and I will combine errands to save gas.  I will NOT however drink that swine swill that you brewed this morning.  From this moment on, this household will only brew Dunkin’ Donuts coffee. Got that??  America runs on Dunkin.”

And then I hung up. Boy #1 sat there in silence as he watched me leave that message. After I hung up, he said, “I guess no one should mess with your coffee,  huh?”

That is right my boy! Don’t mess with the Dunkin’! A lesson best learned young!
