WOW, have we been socked with the snow! Last Thursday, the weather man was calling for snow. A lot of snow. It was supposed to hit at midnight and last until noon on Friday. It was very prompt. I woke up around 2AM Friday morning and went to the kitchen and opened the blinds. Yep…weatherman was right! We awoke to school closings and a lot of snow! The visibility was about nil. The kids were so excited about the snow day, even though it was their last day before winter break. The boy’s and Mr. T. spent the majority of the late morning shoveling and snow blowing. Once the snow stopped and the roads were fairly cleaned up, we headed out to try to get some more Christmas shopping done. Lucky for us, the snow kept most sane people at home, most of the stores were pretty deserted and we got in and out in a hurry! If you live somewhere that does not get snow…here is what you are missing!

Now, it may not look like much, as the pictures were taken about 7 AM and the snow continued until about noon. A final tally would be 10.5 inches! The kids loved it and played outside for a good portion of the day.

Then Sunday rolled around and everything that one loves about winter and snow comes to a screaching halt. Today, it is cold. REALLY COLD. I think the temperature was at -10 degrees with a windchill of -45 degrees. A day when you can hear the wind howl and the see the snow blow and drift. A good day to stay inside.

The boys and I baked cookies today. It is a tradition that we make cutout sugar cookies and decorate them with all of the trimmings; red hots, colored frosting, chocolate chips, colored sugar, colored jimmies and of course the “gel” writing tubes. I try really hard to concentrate on being together and getting in the spirit of Christmas and enjoying each other and not worrying about the condition or decor of the cookies. After all, it does not matter what they look like…right? So if you happen to be a guest at my home over the holidays and you are the lucky one to get the gingerbread boy with an eye patch, a glittery yellow belt and a fake peg leg, admire the artistic ability of my children. After all, pirates may celebrate Christmas too! We also have an snowman cookie with “angry eyebrows” and the word “COOL” spelled out across his “snowman shirt”. A little Pirates of the Caribbean and also a hip-hop snowman! Cuz that is how we roll! I am sure Santa will love them! We had a great day, despite the cold and football on my TV all day and night! A good day to stay in our PJ’s all day…which is just what I did!
